Most of the time, I think I agree with Peter, that 'fear' is the fear of
not writing, of not being able to get something down again.
On the other hand, in the area of para-literature known as horrow, there
are a lot of 'poems' puiblished in that field which strike me as trying for
a Stephen King effect, & not always succeeding. If there is a kind of
'fear' response that a certain style can conjure, then that can be
interesting for those who enjoy such a frisson, but how to achieve it? I
don't know.
On the other hand (probably sometime after teaching The Wasteland, again),
I once suddenly wrote these 3 lines:
if i had dust
i could show you a handful of dust
if i had a hand
