A couple of years ago Hanson was a force but, as others have said in their
reply posts, her force seems to have been spent somewhat though what was
behind it I suspect not.
Chris's post title alluded the interesting phenomena of Ms Hanson being
impersonated in drag as Pauline Pantsdown. This character used to follow the
politician around to try to disrupt and stir and also released two songs -
satires obviously - based around her 'pronouncements' - the most famous
being 'please explain' - which she said once when asked by a reporter if she
was xenophobic. These songs, and the act, were quite successful and one of
the songs was banned which made it even more successful.
The 'songs' were actually made up from samples - from sentences down to
syllables - taken from her recorded remarks. Coincidentally Pauline
Panstdown's creator is also the man whom I replaced as film reveiwer for the
Sydney Star Observer, a well-known gay and lesbian weekly newspaper in these
here parts. He is also a musician as you might gather from the above. Has
has also down another recording as Little Johnny, whom he also dresses as,
which has John Howard apologising for everything.
One thing he told me was that in following Hanson and her band around he'd
found she was not half as bad, just rather thick, as her cronies, especially
a certain David Oldfield who, unfortunately, was elected to the Upper House
of the NSW State Parliament and still sits there. He is a cold, inadequate
individual and altogether more dangerous (and a sleaze to boot). So, yes,
you are right in some respects.
