Dear Martyn,
I accept your comment about Dentists becoming Dental Surgeons in the
1940's. This was undertaken I believe, to effect professional closure.
Perhaps we will be able to do the same within the next five years.
My point was regarding image and professional confidence, rather than
title. We as a profession, are very sensitive. Did the vets get upset by
BBC's 'Beast' or the Doctors by 'Doctor in the house'. I think not.
If we ALL want the professional Podiatrist image and public
acknowledgement, the whole profession needs to improve its approach.
This is down to each individual member to promote ourselves to the
public ad medical colleagues, not unloading the responsibility entirely
on the Society. Start by looking the part, joke or not 'Hugo Boss' gives
a better image than the therapists 'smock/trousers' uniform
I am not convinced that 8000 members really do care about their
profession, Only 1500 bother to vote for its council. Last year only 500
attended the annual conference, and less than 50 its AGM ...The forum
for making your views publicly known.
Perhaps I will see everyone, professionally dressed and keen for CPD in
Harrogate and a packed house for the AGM. Just to make life perfect 8000
lobby letters to MP's for closure and protection of the Podiatrist
title.
We can but hope. let us each nurture our own image to met our own
standards.
Regards
