Please find below an announcement for a post-doc position to put on
the org-geochem database.

A one-year post-doc position should be available in the
"Laboratoire de Chimie Bioorganique et Organique Physique" in "Ecole
Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Paris", France from September 2001. The
position may be renewed for additional 6 months. Application is restricted
to non-french scientists with a PhD and less than 35 years old. The salary
will be of 12,000 FF per month.

The Laboratoire de Chimie Bioorganique et Organique Physique
(LCBOP) is a part of a CNRS laboratory (UMR 7573) at the "Ecole Nationale
Supérieure de Chimie de Paris".
The LCBOP has been working, for almost 20 years, on the characterization of
the chemical structure, sources, formation pathways and evolution upon
burial of sedimentary organic matter. Pioneering studies on the mechanisms
of organic matter preservation in sediments and on the characterization of
a new type of biomacromolecules were carried out in our group which was
granted the"Best paper Award" by the Organic Geochemistry Division of the
American Geochemical Society in 1992. These studies, focused on the
insoluble macromolecular fraction of fossil organic matter (kerogen) are
also useful for the reconstruction of palaeoenvironments and the assessment
of the role of organic matter on safety of radioactive waste disposal in
clay formations. Studies were also performed on soluble organic components
of fossil remains of higher plants and of recent sediments.
Parallel work, performed on extant microalgae which cell walls played a
major role in the formation of numerous organic-rich deposits, also
afforded information on the biological role of such walls and led to
pioneering studies on the occurrence and characterization of new families
of high molecular weight lipids in microalgae.
Studies under progress in our group are also concerned with the refractory
macromolecular organic components in soil, water and meteorites, using the
combined methods developed for the study of fossil organic matter. These
methods include spectroscopy (solid state 13C and 15N NMR, FTIR), pyrolysis
(Curie point pyrolysis coupled to GC/MS, off-line pyrolysis with effluent
trapping, fractionation and derivatization, TMAH thermochemolysis),
microscopy (scanning and transmission electron microscopy).

The post-doc will be implicated in a multidisciplinary research
program which aims at examining the chemical composition of the insoluble
organic fraction contained in meteorites. A part of related studies has
been recently published in EPSL (Gardinier et al., 2000) and presented at
previous ACS meetings. This program is partly supported by the French
National Science Council (CNRS) and by the French National Spatial Council
(CNES) in the framework of preparative studies for Mars Sample Return. It
is performed in collaboration with laboratories from University P. M.
Curie, Paris and National History Museum, Paris.

Please submit, as soon as possible and not later than February 19th
2001 (deadline for submission : February 28th), a curriculum vitae, list of
publications, statement of research interests and the names and addresses
of references to Dr. Sylvie DERENNE, LCBOP, UMR CNRS 7573, ENSCP, 11 rue P.
M. Curie, 75231 PARIS cedex 05 (Tel : 33-1-43295102, e-mail :
