Information Sheet - Isotope & Organic Geochemistry PMD Laboratory

AGSO's Isotope and Organic Geochemistry Laboratory supports a range of
research activities that contribute to improved understanding of
Australia's petroleum resources. In the hands of government agencies and
exploration companies this research, in the form of databases and
specialist reports, aids risk assessment and promotes exploration
investment, particularly in Australia's offshore jurisdiction. The
laboratory also contributes to research in marine environmental geoscience,
to understanding the extent of human impacts on the coastal zone and to
technique development in organic geochemistry. The laboratory is in AGSO'
s newly constructed facility in Symonston ACT and is well equipped with a
range of modern analytical instruments. These include two high resolution
sector mass spectrometers (Autospec Ultima-Q, VG 70E), a HP 5973 MSD, a
Finnigan MAT-252 isotope ratio mass spectrometer, a (soon to be installed)
Finnigan Delta+XL isotope ratio mass spectrometer, several standalone and
MS interfaced gas chromatographs (Varian, HP and Carlo-Erba), a Rock-Eval-
6, Perkin Elmer LS50B Fluorimeter, plus HPLC and ASE equipment.
