Dear All,

I have been asked to bring this upcoming course to your attention.
Dermex 2001
An International Short Course on Dermal Exposure Assessment
29th to the 31st May, 2001, Edinburgh, UK
Organised by the University of Aberdeen and the Institute of Occupational
Medicine
Introduction
This international short course on dermal exposure and risk assessment has
been developed as an initiative of the Skin and Surface Contamination
subgroup of the European Dermal Exposure Network. The network operated from
1996 to 1999 and comprised European scientists from academia, government and
industry who were working on dermal exposure from chemical substances. The
network was set up because of the growing concern that in certain
circumstances dermal exposure is a major contributor to the total uptake of
substances.

Objectives
The main objectives of the course are to increase your understanding of
dermal exposure and risk assessment and to develop awareness of how skin and
surface contamination measurement methods can be applied in occupational
settings.

Course Content
*       Relevance of skin exposure
* Conceptual model of dermal exposure assessment
* Subjective methods for estimating dermal exposure
* Quantitative methods for estimating dermal exposure
* Demonstration of dermal assessment techniques
* The prevalence of occupational skin disease
*       Percutaneous penetration
*       Estimating dermal uptake
* The effectiveness of protective clothing
*       Dermal exposure strategies
* Risk assessment and setting guidelines for dermal exposure
* Assessment of skin complaints in occupational hygiene
*       Case studies
