The best resource is the DVLA's "For Medical Practitioners - At a Glance
Guide to the Current Medical Standards of Fitness to Drive" issued by the
Drivers Medical Unit at the DVLA. You must have this if you are even
thinking of doing LGV/PCV medicals.
A word of warning about LGV and PCV medicals (sorry for being gloomy
again!). Remember that the livelihood of those who come for them will often
depend upon their outcome. A very, very good question to ask is: why are you
paying me to do this medical instead of your GP? There is a some fraud
perpetrated in these medicals - I have personally been aware of two cases
where the individual concerned actually lied to the doctor concerned (not
their GP and fortunately not me either) to retain their licence when their
medical condition disqualified them.
As a result of this experience, I now no longer do "willy nilly" LGV
medicals and will only do them when I am happy that I know enough about the
background and medical history of the patient to be able to answer all the
questions on the D4. Remember whose signature is on the bottom of the form
declaring the information on it is correct!!
