Subject: RE: organisation stressors & stress levels
A huge area to look at - many tools exist already - depending on the
interventions you want to make, the level of end user intelligence and
the ability of the OH team to interpret the results - do not
underestimate the length of time that might take(!); you may want to
look at the GHQ (General Health Questionnaire) which comes in many
formats - the shortest being the GHQ 12 - and only takes a few minutes
to complete, through to the OSI (Occ Stress Indicator) which takes
longer to complete (and analyse) but is far more comprehensive. You can
get some more details from the publishers of these at
www.nfer-nelson.co.uk. or the BMJ two weeks ago discussed the merits of
a number of questionnaires (not purely occupational settings though).
The OSI publish results from different occupational groupings as
comparitors. There is some mileage in using GHQ12 as an initial broad
brush stroke screening test on a large scale either by job function or
by department, reserving the more in depth OSI for use when a potential
issue is flagged up. The OSI is better used for grouped not individual
results.
Hope this helps, rgds, Lorenzo Visentin
