Some of you may be interested in this paper which provides a summary of
recent thinking on sustainable livelihoods and vulnerability to
disasters. In particular, it looks at the sustainable livelihoods (SL)
framework currently being developed and promoted.
The paper includes a list of selected references and sources of information
on these subjects. It also comments on issues arising from current
theories that are relevant to work on livelihood options for disaster risk
reduction.
You can download the paper from the Benfield Greig Hazard Research Centre
website (http://www.bghrc.com) - go the Disaster Management pages and look
under Working Papers. I'm afraid it's quite a large file, even in pdf
format, because of the graphics it contains - impossible to write about
vulnerability and sustainable livelihoods without reproducing diagrams!
