PhD STUDENT POSITION
Applications are invited for a PhD student position in
THEORETICAL REACTION DYNAMICS
in the group of Dr. Uwe Manthe at the TU Munich.
The research of the group focuses on quantum effects in chemical reaction
dynamics. Development of theoretical and numerical methods for quantum
molecular dynamics is a key issue of the research. Applications include
reaction dynamics in gas phase and on surfaces, photochemistry, and
spectroscopy. For more information see:

Presently a position is vacant in a project studying proton transfer processes.
Proton transfer processes are an prominent feature of many chemical and
biochemical systems. The present project investigates the dynamics of proton
transfer in prototypical organic molecules such as malonaldehyde or tropolone.
The study includes the construction of a multi-dimensional potential energy
surface (based on Shepard interpolation) and wavepacket dynamics calculations
utilizing the multi-configurational time-dependent Hartree (MCTDH) approach.
The MCTDH approach facilitates the accurate treatment of multi-dimensional
quantum dynamics problems which are beyond the scope of any other existing
method. Therefore new insight in the intrinsically multi-dimensional nature of
the proton tunneling process can be expected.
To qualify for a PhD student position, a diplom or master degree in chemistry,
physics, or a related area is required.
