CENTRE FOR RESEARCH IN PRIMARY CARE
SCHOOL OF MEDICINE
RESEARCH ASSISTANT/OFFICER/FELLOW IN
ETHNICITY AND HEALTHCARE
We wish to appoint a male, Punjabi/Urdu-speaking
researcher to assist with a number of projects on
aspects of ethnicity and healthcare. You will have a
good first degree and ideally a higher degree in social
sciences and have some experience of qualitative
research. You will have skills in some of these:
in-depth interviewing, focus groups, collecting
observational and documentary data and qualitative
data analysis. The post is for 18 months in the first
instance. It should be noted that, although the
University's practice is to make appointments on merit
regardless of gender, disability or ethnic origin, in this
instance it is understood that a Genuine Occupational
Qualification exists (as defined in the Sex
Discrimination Act (as amended in 1986) and the
Race Relations Act 1976) which permits the
University to appoint a male researcher. This is
because of the detailed and personal nature of the
investigation and the need to respect the customs of
the ethnic minority communities which are its focus
require that it be possible to offer gender matched
interviews.
