I have today come across 2 references to the use of barytes in coal
washeries, in one case ( Lilleshall) the washery was not working and the
offer of barytes was turned down, in the other case (Cupola, Sheffield) the
offer was turned down because the barytes, though the quality was adequate
was not fine enough. As far as I am aware Snailbeach (Lordshill) Mine sold
their product jigged, double jigged or crude at this time (1945). What was
the barytes used for in the washeries?
All the best
