I am presently researching the firing of lime kilns in Cumbria and have
come across a reference to CHEWS as being a size of coal produced in
Scotland around the Sanquhar area. these were apparently more efficent
at burning lime that Small coals. What were the relaitve sizes of these
two categories of coal?
Also can anyone tell me what the cost of coke production was in the mid
18th century?
