Having assisted with the survey i can confirm that the survey team was not
all French. An interim report was produced for the National Trust in Wales
last August since then i have been a bit out of touch with the project.
The report presented the survey work carried out both on the surface and
underground and made a number of suggestions for further research. The
conclusion was that we know very little about the site and that if it
follows the pattern of mines in Europe then it was probably worked before
the Romans arrived. How much earlier would need further archaeological
investigation as would establishing the history of the site after the Romans
left.
So no earth shattering conclusions but plenty of suggestions for future
work.
