A non-mining colleague has just come across a couple of books on mine surveying while clearing a relative's house. They are:
A Treatise on Mine Surveying, by Bennett H. Brough and Harry Dean (17th edition, 1926) and
Field and Colliery Surveying, by T.A. O'Donahue (new and revised edition, 1928)
Both are in pretty good condition. He asks if anyone has background on these, e.g. were they standard works (the number of reprints suggests they're not exactly rare) and/or required reading of mining students, where did they sit in the hierarchy of mining texts, how long did they continue in print, any interesting information on the authors, and are they worth anything? (If they're worth keeping, I might make him an offer myself.)
