Well almost! I have a number of questions for the group and would
appreciate it if someone could provide an answer.
You will be aware that in the recent past I prepared a list of surviving
UK headgears and then engines. Well I have now combined these into a
single database and added in for luck working UK mines and surviving
enginehouses. The enginehouses list includes any structure that holds
(or held) a mine engine whether it be of stone, wood or modern ones.
Apart from the questions, I would appreciate any fills for working mines
or enginehouses. So lets begin! These are the first 10 questions - does
anyone know them al!
1. What is the name and grid ref of the two old engine houses at
Botallack?
2. There is a surviving engine house and beam engine in a china clay
works in Cornwall. What is the name of the enginehouse and its grid
ref?
3. What are the grid refs of the two enginehouses open to the public at
East Pool?
4. At Poldark Museum, are there any headgears to go with the engines?
Also what is the grid ref of Poldark?
5. At Haig Colliery, is there a single headgear with two winding wheels
or are they completely separate headgears?
6. In Cumbria, do Honister, Longriggs, Newbiggin and Silverband Mines
have any headgears or winding engines? If so, what are the grid refs?
7. In Derbyshire, what are the grid refs for the headgears at Arbor Low
Mine, Brinsley Colliery, Glory Mine, Long Rake Mine and Swanwick Pit?
8. In Dorset, does Norden Mine have any headgear or winding engine and
what is the grid ref?
9. Are the headgears and engines still in existence at Grove Rake Mine
in Durham and, if so, what are the shaft names and grid refs?
10. In East Sussex, Brightling Mine is a drift but is there any winding
engine and what is the grid ref?
Thanks
Adrian
