The papers of the "Scientific Conference 25-27 March 1994" on "Georgius
Agricola 500 Years" (Basel: Birkhaeuser, 1994, Editor Prof. Dr.Dr.F. Naumann
of TU Chemnitz)) include a report by the author on "Agricola in South
America (Auf den Spuren Agricolas im suedamerikanischen Bergbau), to the
effect that many of his methods were still applied in the early 1990s in
Brazil and Peru; verbal comments at the conference confirmed a similar
situation in Colombia and Bolivia. I later took several German/Bolivian
scientists to Ouro Preto/Mariana, near Belo Horizonte, where we could
observe Agricola-type equipment and his methods "in situ." I suspect not
much has changed. You may also wish to go to Altamira, on the Xingu river,
and to Rondonia, all in Brazil, for gravel washing for gold and wolframite.

Subject: Agricola
I have a vague idea that many years ago I came across a paper on the
readership and influence of Agricola's De Re Metallica. Needless to say
I can't remember the reference. Can anyone help?
