Whilst researching the Long family (mining interests in Cromhall Yate and
Forest of Dean) I found reference to
"In Loving Memory of Samuel Clarke Long who departed this life December 11th
1872 in his 32nd Year at San Louis South America
And was buried at the Dutch settlement at Rosario"
His father Paul, His Grandfather Samuel Long the Younger and Great
Grandfather Samuel Long the Elder were all mine owners (as were his fathers
two brothers) The family was also very involved in the woollen industry and
local chapels.
Are there any mines in San Louis South America?
Did he go out there following in the family tradition?
or Perhaps he was a missionary?
Any one got any clues?
Regards
David
