The last manufacturers (that I know of)for the "Cornish" Vanning shovel were
Holmans dry dock of Penzance, & I believe that I purchased the last three
that they had in stock, way back in around 1983. (For Cornish Tin &
Engineering Ltd). Of which I still have one, which is still used. (Here in
New Zealand).
Although at that time they still had the former to produce them, but did not
visualise much demand!!
In use they are far better than the Denver "Vanning Plaque" or a
conventional gold pan.
Having said that, it would be easy to make one from 16S.W.G. sheet steel, &
little bit of panel beating / welding. This works quite well, as I made up
three or four this way for use at Tolgus Tin in the late 70`s. If anyone
wants the dimensions, please contact me off list.
Regards, Bob Orchard.
