Hi Patrick
I have the following basic info. regarding the Darien Gold Mining Co. Ltd.
to pass on;
The Darien Gold Mining Company, Limited: Headquarters: 86 King
St.,Manchester.
Registered March 3, 1887; reformed 1891, 1906/7.
Liquidation, 1913.
Site names: Espirito Santo and Mina del Rey.
Locations: Cana and La Marca.
Recent Bartholomew map of northwest South America showed ruins due south of
Yaviza, near border.
As an aside I have a fair bit of information about the token currency used
by D.G.M.Co. to pay their local workforce. Truck tokens were common in
North, Central and South America mines well into the C20th.
Various token denominations were issued by the D.G.M.Co. most of which bear
a mining theme on their obverse sides. All of the tokens were made by a
Birmingham manufacturer. It appears that many of the used tokens found there
way back to the UK as several turned up some 10 or so years back in
Manchester where the company had its registered offices.
