Hi folks,
Just thought I'd let you all know that I recorded the severe storms of July
3rd and their flood effects - and put them at http://www.cyber-
space.co.uk/johntherock/tornado.htm - for all to view.
Not exactly industrial archaeology is it? - but wait! Here history can be
of use in researching natural phenomena. The severity of the Mawddach flash-
flood can perhaps be estimated, in terms of "when did the last one happen",
by the fact that Vaughan's Shaft at East Cwm Heisian not only lost its tip
but half of its stone collar.
The river swept away a third of the yard outside Gwynfynydd; it then went
straight over the top of Gwynfynydd bridge (illustrated on web site); it
washed away part of the garden at Ferndale exposing old walls from Tyddyn
Gwladys times - and so on. Well worth a look if you're in the area though
new scars are starting to green over and repairs have been undertaken.
Cheers - John
