Having recently purchased a slide scanner, I am going through old boxes
of slides and scanning them. Having found 120 misc. mining photos, I
have found a set of photos of a single colliery headgear. I think these
shots were taken c1977 and are of somewhere near Tankersley in South
Yorkshire. On one of the photos is the colliery nameboard which appears
to read Cadley Hall Colliery. The Hall and the Colliery are perfectly
clear, but the Cadley is not as clear. It is certainly six characters,
and I read it as Cadley. The problem is that I cannot find any reference
to a Cadley Hall Colliery. I know there was a Cadley Hill Colliery near
Swadlincote, but it certainly is Hall and not Hill, and I am positive it
is not Cadeby. I have looked through the 1950 colliery handbook and
cannot find it in there, it is not a newer headgear than then. Can
anybody cast a light on this headgear?
