Richard Howarth was asking about F.H. Hatch, who became
President of the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy 1914-1915.
Have you contacted the IMM library? I note you are based at
UCL, London, so you have not far to go to the IMM's London
office now at Hallam Court, 77 Hallam Street. Try telephoning
the Librarian, Mike McGarr on 020 7580 3802.
The IMM history over its first 100 years is covered to some
extent in the book "The Professionals" by A.J. Wilson. I see
Wilson dropped a clanger in that he called him Frederick
George Hatch, but according to the book's index. Hatch is
referred to on pages 41, 42, 67, 156, 287, 288 and 289, so
there might be something there to help.
Have you tried contemporary issues of Mining Journal?
I think the IMM Library should have them but, if it is missing
the early 1890s ( the IMM was only founded in 1892), then
Mining Journal Ltd has them all since 1835. Contact Chris Hinde
at 60 Worship Street, tel 020 7216 6060.
