A lady called Sylvia Pettem in the USA was researching the same subject and
wrote an article (Cornish World magazine issue 21 Apr/May/Jun 2000 pages 12,
13 & 17) partly about women who emigrated from Cornwall to the USA. I have
the article as a word document (scanned with permission from both author and
publisher) if you would like it.
My notes in the file also have the comments below. Maybe it would be worth
you contacting Sylvia by email.
------------------------------------------
Silvia Pettem lives in Colorado where she writes a weekly newspaper column
and has published several books on regional history. Her specialities are
mining history and women of the Victorian era She and her husband, Ed
Raines, visited Cornwall for the first time in February, 2000.
Besides her interest in our heritage, Silvia would like to learn more about
the joys, hardships and expectations of Cornish miners and their families as
they left their homes in Cornwall for new lives in America.
If you know of any journals or letters written, particularly by Cornish
women between 1850 and 1890, please contact her at 721 Francis Street,
Longmont CO 80501 USA, or e-mail her at [log in to unmask]
------------------------------------------
I hope this may be helpful, Roger
