I think you will find that Ross was referring to the offensive mining
(tunnelling) operations carried out by both the German army and the allies
all along the Western Front up to 1917.
If you (Ross) ever do locate a copy of the book I would be very interested
in it's contents.

I think it will be very difficult to obtain such a book...
I did recently a research on the mining history on a Belgian locality,
Sclaigneaux (Namur). As fas as I know, there was not much mining in Belgium
during the first war. The only mining in Flanders was coal
mining,...............
