Subject: a new video on birth!
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to introduce you to the documentary film I recently made
entitled,
"A Clear Road to Birth" and to see if you would be interested in listing the
film on your website.
"A Clear Road to Birth" is a 56-minute videotape (shot in digital format and
available in VHS, either NTSC or PAL version) about women who choose to give
birth without any medical assistance at all.
I interviewed several women and found each one to be extremely accepting of
any kind of birth. Their goal, articulated so well by Laura Shanley, one of
the participants in the film and author of the book, “Unassisted
Childbirth”, is to help create better births for women no matter what the
setting.
I am not advocating birth without medical assistance but have given voice to
the women who choose this approach to childbirth. I have seen, in various
screenings, how this documentary offers viewers an open forum to discuss the
many issues surrounding birth. By enabling these women to share their
stories, I feel that I am offering an opportunity to all women to empower
themselves with knowledge and information and the freedom to make a
conscious
choice of how they want to give birth. I feel very strongly that these are
issues that students entering the field of nursing and midwifery, women
entering their childbearing years, doctors and nurses in obstetrics, doulas,
childbirth educators and labor assistants should all be aware of and open to
discussing, no matter what their own beliefs are.
I have shown the film to classes at universities and spoken afterwards to
young women, many of whom express deep fears of the birth process. Three
very common fears in the realm of birth are fear of pain, fear of loss of
control, and fear of death. These issues are very important and not to be
treated lightly.
Please feel free to visit my website <A

hope that you will consider carrying this video.
Thank you very much for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.
