Curatorial job vacancies at the Science Museum, London
The Science Museum currently has over 1.5 million visitors
per year and is Britain s pre-eminent museum of science,
technology and medicine. They now wish to appoint two
subject specialists to supplement the curatorial staff:
Curator/Senior Curator, Information Technology
Circa. stlg33,000 - dependent on experience
We are currently seeking a Curator/Senior Curator specialising
in Information Technology to make a full contribution to the
intellectual and practical life of this renowned museum.
Curating collections in computing, electronic components and
software both past and present, you will interpret these
technologies in both their technical and cultural/historical
contexts via publication, exhibition and other media, and build
representative collections of artefacts.
A Postgraduate degree, preferably a doctorate, in the history
of science, electrical/electronic engineering or another related
subject, is essential for this post, as is experience in collection
or exhibition development. Museum experience would also be
advantageous. This is an ideal opportunity not to be missed
for a committed individual with a passion to communicate
science and technology and their history to a wide audience.
Associate Curator - Energy Supply
Circa stlg22,000
The Science Museum requires an Associate Curator to curate
collections in fossil or renewable energy supply, both past and
present. You will be required to develop a deep understanding
of the subject so that you will be able to build a representative
collection of artefacts on the behalf of the museum, and
develop exhibitions and publications to communicate this
knowledge. You will explore technical and cultural/historical
contexts in all your work and your committed attitude will
contribute to the ethos of intellectual development that drives
our working environment.
A postgraduate degree in the history or current practice of
science and technology ,or other relevant subject, is normally
required for this role. We also need to see evidence of
knowledge and interest in energy and environmental issues as
well as a desire to communicate your subject to a wider
audience through all media.
