Dear Mike
I have read you e-mails on the formation of a group to discuss and share
information on Museums and the Web.
I'd also be very keen to be part of such a group - whilst I know the primary
audience is aimed at museums themselves, I would like to suggest that it is
also opened to a wider audience to include those with other relevant
experience - perhaps to non-museums people like myself.
I have experience on the Internet dating back to 1995; have worked on many
Internet/multimedia projects and on industry groups in other sectors. As an
organisation, Harvard are very active in providing advice in this area in
the culture sector - more in the role of a management consultancy than as a
developer (although we do have an in-house design/development capability).
Through our research arm, we have also undertaken a significant amount of
research into Internet/e-commerce trends in the sector, some of which may be
of interest to this new group (?)
Regards
Chris Meaney (AIMC)

Subject: Re: MCG Meeting - First announcement
Hi Sue,
Following Museums and the Web 2001 I feel that the time is right to start a
focus group for UK Museum web people. I first tried this 2 years ago
(MuseWeb) but it did not build into anything as it was 'stand alone'. I now
feel that the best way to get such a forum together would be to 'attach' it
to an exisiting group, and MCG seems the most appropriate. I chatted to
Fiona about this and she seemed to agree. I propose that we announce a
'round table' discussion during or after MCG with regard to setting up a
meting of interested parties and to find out what people would want from
such a group: eg bi monthly talks etc.
I feel that this would also raise awareness among web related staff at
Museums: they often are not aware of the Group's existance!
Do you like the general idea?
cheers
Mike, Web Manager, NHM.
