Sorry I cannot help you too much with the info but one link that might be
useful, when I worked at the Museum of London, last year they had just
initiated a project with Chicago Museum, 'Peopling the City' or something
along those lines, which was basically an online exhibition showing
immigration/emigration into those two cities (and the connection?). Huge
potential of course to link into immigrant communities, social exclusion
etc. As I say I had nothing to with this other than discussing it with
Andrew Roberts at the MoL, I know Andrew is a member of MCG, so he may of
course contact you direct. If not I can drop him a line, give you his email
etc.
As for me by some pure fluke/act of stupidity I have just become the Acting
Curator of the Royal Logistics Corps Museum at Deepcut, Surrey, on a salary
which is quite a lot more than I am used to and quite a lot less than the
work I am doing deserves!! I have from now until the end of May to draw up
all the policy documents required for Registration Phase 2, including why
the Museum has not kept an Accession Register since 1993, why it has not
issued Entry Forms since the same time, why there is no full
catalogue/inventory index of the collection, and why there has never been an
environmental monitoring system, policy or audit on the collection (and why
25% is falling apart). Nothing much to do then.
I dont know who is running the Collection Management Module now, but if they
would like a piece on how not to manage a collection/how to implement a
retrospective documentation project, then I shall be available (sometime
around 2003 I think!!)
I have been trying to contact Simon Braithwaite and/or Ben Jones recently,
as I am looking to take on an Assistant here, if you hear from them before I
find them can you mention this.
Thanks for your help in the past
Cheers
Paul Connell
