Dear Listmember,
As many of you will know, over the past few months we have been
conducting a survey of ICT provision in museums and archives. Based on
the existing Netbase survey for public libraries, the survey
questionnaire was issued last month to over 3400 institutions throughout
the UK.
An analysis of the first 614 responses is now available online via the
People's Network website at
http://www.peoplesnetwork.gov.uk/netbase/museumanalysis.html
Once all the responses to the survey questionnaire have been collated, a
full analysis of the survey results will be made available from this
page. In the meantime, however, this interim analysis draws some
interesting parallels between museums and archives, providing
comparative information in a range of areas including ICT hardware,
Internet connectivity and the provision of terminals for public Internet
access.
If you work for a museum or archive which has not yet completed the
survey questionnaire, we are still very keen to hear from you. If you
require an additional copy, please contact me either by email at this
address, or telephone on 020 7273 1410.
Yours sincerely,
Nick
