An interesting topic and very near my heart! As a geological curator of 30 years+ I have not yet found a convincing
explanation of why nothing much seems to change in this museum. Certainly, putting on new displays can be set
a time limit. Acquisitioning of specimens takes only a few minutes, cleaning, labelling and so on takes a little
longer. But what the authorities forget is that one person, often part-time or unqualified in that particular area, has
to find the time to research each item, work on it to the standard appropriate and then catalogue and find a space.
Please let me know if you ever quantify this.
