I am currently writing a short a piece for Richard Sandell's and Jocelyn
Dodd's new publication "Including Museums: Perspectives on museums,
galleries and social inclusion".
I am very keen to hear from anyone in the MCG who is working on a new media
project that sees itself as working towards a social inclusion outcome. By
this I mean, projects that are helping to deliver outcomes perhaps less
commonly assigned to museums, such as: enhancing individuals self-esteem,
empowering communities to take greater control over their lives, challenging
stereotypes and tackling intolerance. What interests me are those projects
that are engaging with the problems that disadvantage many diverse
communities - whether this be in the way that they play a social role in
combating poor health, crime, low educational attainment or unemployment.
This promises to be a very timely and thought-provoking publication -
including contributions from many authors. Here, therefore, is an
opportunity for MCG members to share and publicise the good work that I know
they are doing. (And at this stage any evidence or direction would be
appreciated - even a URL).
I look forward to hearing form you soon.
