UKOLUG RESEARCH AWARD
As announced in the July/August UKOLUG Newsletter
UKOLUG is again offering to pay for your research!
A discretionary award of £1,000 is offered to assist in a
single piece of research in the broad area of online,
CD-ROM or Internet information supply or use. The
research must be judged to be original and of value to
the general community of users of electronic information
resources that UKOLUG serves.
The award is open to all current, paid-up UKOLUG members
other than those serving on the Management Committee for
the year in question or those who have received a
Research Award within the last 3 years. It will not be
awarded to students, whether full- or part-time.
The award may be used for travel, subsistence, or any
other legitimate expenses associated with the research
work. It is intended to help practitioners undertake a
piece of research work while they are still employed.
A condition of the award is that a short report should be
presented to the current Committee at the completion of
the work; this may be included in the Newsletter, placed
on the UKOLUG Web site or published separately.
Submissions should be sufficiently detailed to provide a
basis for judging the application against others received
and should include details of aims, methodology and
expected benefits to the online community, as well as
information on any other funding, some justification of
the application, time-scale, etc.
If the award is to go to a research team, one member of
the team must be named as the contact for UKOLUG
administrative purposes. Payment will be made in three
equal sums at the commencement, the midpoint and upon
acceptance by UKOLUG of the final report. The final
report should be made to UKOLUG within six to nine months
of commencement and should detail the research activity's
work and results. The report should be delivered in both
hardcopy and on diskette and be in a form suitable for
publication. Failure to produce a suitable report may
jeopardise the final payment.
It should be emphasised that UKOLUG retains the right to
withhold the award if no suitable application is
received.
