The course is designed for people with no experience of web authoring and no
prior experience is required. Participants will get most out of the day if
they have, however, spent some time using the internet and are familiar with
a windows environment.

Title: thesauri for the electronic age
Date: 27th - 28th September 2001 (2 day)
Fee: £650.00 + VAT (£763.75)
Speaker: Stella Dextre Clarke and Joe McLelland
The thesaurus is enjoying a revival now that the development of e-content
has exposed the limitations of full text searching. Even with today's most
sophisticated software, some types of retrieval pose problems that can be
addressed only by a controlled vocabulary. But is a thesaurus really the
right solution for your application? And if so, what kind of thesaurus would
be appropriate?
This course addresses the fundamental questions of how to build a thesaurus,
how to match it to specific needs and how to assess the amount of work that
this will involve. Practical exercises reinforce the principles.
If you are responsible for the decision to embark on a controlled
vocabulary, and/or for implementing the decision, this course will lead you
to efficient and effective working methods. There will be opportunities to
raise and discuss the practicalities of your own situation.
