I sent the message to East Mids MEPs & recieved this positive response.
Thank you for your e-mail on the Legal affairs committee's forthcoming
vote on the Copyright Directive. Although I am not a member of the
European Parliament's Legal affairs committee, the Copyright Directive is
an issue with which I am more than familiar with, having been the
draftsperson of the Consumer Protection committee's opinion in first
reading. I too share your concerns and have been in contact throughout my
involvement in this issue with Frank Harris from the Education Copyright
Users' Forum. I made it very clear in press interviews following
Parliament's plenary vote in first reading that I felt that Parliament had
gone 'too far' in trying to protect rights holders and had done so at the
expense of maintaining traditional rights of access for key groups and
institutions in society. I do hope that this can be prevented at second
reading.
I have also copied this reply to my Labour colleague in the East Midlands
Mel Read MEP who covers legal issues in the region.
Yours sincerely
Phillip Whitehead MEP
