Apologies for crossposting
The zetoc database is available free at point of access to NHS staff in
England from today. Further information about NHS use is at
http://www.nelh.nhs.uk/zetoc.asp and the actual zetoc site is at
http://zetoc.mimas.ac.uk/faq.html. Access requires an Athens user name and
password (registration available via NeLH site).
NHS users in other UK countries dont have access as (in this post-devolution
era) an agency in these countries would need to take on funding it, and this
has not yet been arranged.
Further information from the press release:
zetoc is a database of 17.5 million citations of journal and conference
papers derived from the world's 20,000 most important research journals; it
is both fully searchable and also offers an integrated current awareness
service, alerting users to new information in specialised subject areas of
their choice. The result of close collaboration between the British Library,
MIMAS (Manchester Information and Associated Services) and JISC (Joint
Information Systems Committee), zetoc was first made available to the UK
academic community in Autumn 2000. The database covers the years from 1993
to the present and citations are currently being added at a rate of 10,000
per day.
Providing excellent coverage of a vast range of subject areas - from law to
engineering, from business to the humanities - zetoc is particularly strong
on medicine, pharmacology and the pure sciences. It will therefore prove
invaluable to healthcare professionals across every specialisation -
especially as it will be free at the point of use.
zetoc - provides Z39.50-compliant access to the British Library's Electronic
Table of Contents (ETOC). The database contains details of approximately
20,000 current journals and 16,000 conference proceedings published per
year. With some 17.5 million article and conference records the database is
a major resource for the academic community in general and the medical and
healthcare professions in particular. Copies of all the articles and
conference papers are available from the British Library Document Supply
Centre at Boston Spa, West Yorkshire. zetoc has been developed in
partnership with MIMAS and JISC. For more information visit:
