A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A LIBRARIAN
Adsetts Centre, Sheffield Hallam University
Tuesday 19 June 2001
This one-day seminar is aimed at publishers, subscription
agents, librarians and those working elsewhere in the
serials world. The speakers represent a range of libraries
from the academic, research and business environments –
with a distinct Yorkshire flavour.
Four librarians will provide a practical insight into the
opportunities and challenges confronting them and their
organisations in providing access to serials information
in the 21st century. One of the key dilemmas for serials
librarians today is how to get started with e-journals and
then how to deal with the complexity of managing virtual
collections. This will be a pivotal theme of the seminar
which will also cover related areas in serials management
such as budgetary control, purchasing decisions, collection
administration and cataloguing, as well as looking at serials
information from the user perspective and the relationship
between publishers, agents and librarians.
There will be an opportunity for informal group discussion in
which to share experiences of the topics raised in the
presentations, together with a tour of the innovative Adsetts
Centre.
