Consumer Health Care Information on the internet
a half day hands-on training workshop
Date: 27 April 2001 (pm)
Price: £100.00 (£117.50 inc. VAT)
An increasing number of people, particularly patients, want to participate
in the care of their own health. So having the right level of information is
obviously essential. While the internet offers a growing volume of
consumer-oriented health care information, it is not well organised and of
very variable quality. This course will show you how to cut through the maze
of internet sources - providing advice on the essential retrieval and
browsing tools and help on how to get the best out of them. The course
focuses on World Wide Web sites and newslists - you will receive a list of
key URLs for future reference. Talks interspersed with guided practical
hands-on sessions. The course will help you to:
* Discover inside information about how search engines work
* Understand how to choose where to search for which information
* Learn how to use the internet efficiently to save time and money.
Who should come? The course is suitable for patients, patient group
organisers, carers and health care professionals plus library and
information workers supporting these groups. It is aimed at those with a
basic knowledge of internet applications.
