Loughborough University Library is reviewing it's newspaper collection
policy. We are undertaking a survey of user requirements so that we can
assess how best we can supply newspaper information.
I would be grateful to hear if any other library has undertaken a similar
survey and if any major revision of electronic access to newspaper has
taken place as a result.
I am particularly interested in how much use is made of newspaper platforms
such as Lexis-Nexis, Infotrac etc. and by whom (i.e. searches conducted by
staff on a pay per use basis or open access to all users).
I would also be interested in libraries who maintain a mix of formats such
as microform, cd-rom and Internet. Are text-only versions of newspapers
considered adequate or do users demand a complete facsimile copy with
pictures, graphs and, in the case of the FT for instance, statistics and
tables.
Thanks for any responses, which I will summarise and post back to this
newsgroup.
