SILG (Sexuality Issues in Libraries Group) formerly the Burning Issues Group, is a Library Association
Organisation in Liasion working to improve library services for gay men, lesbians, bisexual and
transgendered people, and is holding a workshop on 28th November 2001. Any interested
library/information workers are invited to attend FOR FREE!!!!!!
The workshop will examine key issues in purchasing materials for socialy excluded groups (not just
lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgenered materials) within and outside a consortium and issues of
supplier selection.
There will also be a discussion regarding a recent survey completed by the Social Exclusion Action
Planning Network (SEAPN) examining purchasing issues.
For those interested in LGBT materials the discussion will look at sources of supply and holding stock
in separate or integrated collections.
These sessions will be led by John Vincent, Chair of SILG and member of the SEAPN and staff from
Hertfordshire Libraries who will share their experiences.
The workshop will end with a tour of the award winning Stratford library.
Time - 28th November 2001 starting 10.30am (Tea and coffee will be available from 10 am).
