This course is designed for anyone working in music libraries or
sections who feels they lack basic music knowledge. The emphasis will be
on dealing with and understanding 'classical' music but there will be
the opportunity to carry out exercises in all kinds of music enquiry
work.
At the end of the day participants will
1) be able to identify common terminology used in music enquiries
2) be able to identify the types of material required by different
types of user
3) have some knowledge of sources of information for music enquiries
4) have a better understanding of what is expected of staff working in
a music library
Sessions include: Terminology (music genres, keys, types of score,
etc.), Music in library catalogues, Copyright, Caring for and promoting
your CD collection, Music enquiries and information sources (printed and
electronic), and practical exercises. It is also an opportunity for
participants to share their own experiences
The course runs from 9.45 to 16.30, and costs 60.00 (45.00 for IAML
members, 20.00 for students) including lunch, tea and coffee. Discount
for 3 or more bookings from one institution.
