Wellcome Library for the History and Understanding of Medicine
The Wellcome Library, part of the Wellcome Trust, is a major international
centre for the history and understanding of medicine. The Library holds
approx. 600,000 printed books and journals and extensive manuscript, archive
and image collections. The Library is reference only and is open to the
public six days a week.
We are looking for a bright and dynamic individual to join the Department as
maternity cover on a fixed term contract of 6 months. Duties for this role
include staffing the enquiry desk; answering the telephone, responding to
e-mail and written enquiries; developing and maintaining the History of
Medicine Library's Website, day to day management of the public workstations
and electronic resources. You will also assist in the production of user
guides and user training. Experience of working in a special Library would
be advantageous.
You should be a qualified librarian with a good understanding of web
development and, preferably experience of Dreamweaver 4.0. You will be
analytical, accurate, enjoy working with detail, and have a sound IT
background. Excellent communication skills are also required. Knowledge of a
foreign language and an interest in history are desirable. You will be
expected to work some late evenings and Saturdays on a rostered basis for
which overtime is payable. Salary will be on a scale starting from £18,940
per annum based on experience plus benefits.
