Here at UCN we are currently looking at designing a more coherent induction
process for the training of people on our enquiry desk.
Has anyone else tried anything different to one or two hour sessions with
subject librarians, talks about the reference interview etc.
We have a mixture of professional and non-professional staff due to embark
on training in September. We thought about a workbook or portfolio type
thing, where the progression can be seen through the various subjects etc.
and this could include additional information plus worksheets, quizzes etc.
to help embed new skills. We are also exploring the idea of enquiry desk
diaries for new individuals to allow monitoring or good practice.
I would be grateful for experiences of what works and what does not and even
examples, if they exist, of the types of things tried.
Thanks in advance,
