Tate Library is currently engaged in the retrospective conversion of its
card catalogues. The Books catalogue is the next part to be converted. I was
wondering whether any libraries or archives who have had experience of the
following could recommend (or otherwise!) companies that could help us in
this work:
1. Firms that can provide accurate keying of cards according to an
agreed spec.
2. Firms that can derive records (preferably in UKMARC) and edit those
records to our specification.
3. Firms that can provide surrogate images of card catalogues (either
for an outside firm to work from or for readers within the Library). I am
also interested in such issues as comparisons between scanning and
microfilming, indexing of information and technical issues to consider.
Many thanks for your time.
