SENIOR LIBRARY ASSISTANT (Interlending and Document Supply)
£16,614 - £19,806
Applications are invited from professionally qualified librarians with strong
IT and communication skills for a post of Senior Library Assistant
(Interlending and Document Supply) in the Services Section of the University
Library. Duties include: the processing and receipt of material from other
libraries on loan, as photocopies, or in electronic format; the processing of
applications for material by other libraries; day-to-day organisation,
supervision and training of staff working in the Interlending and Document
Supply (IDS) Section; handling general reference enquiries.
Applicants should have a degree or postgraduate qualification in librarianship
or information science and will ideally have appropriate experience in a
professional library position, preferably in higher education. They should
possess excellent organisational and inter-personal skills and be able to
demonstrate a creative and flexible approach to their work.

TEMPORARY SENIOR LIBRARY ASSISTANT (Resources) - To 28 February 2003
This vacancy has arisen because of the secondment of the permanent postholder.
£13,938 - £17,105
Applications are invited from professionally qualified librarians with strong
IT and communication skills for a post of Senior Library Assistant in the
Resources Section of the University Library.
Duties include: The preparation of orders and draft catalogue records for new
books; cataloguing and classification of books and audio-visual materials
according to AACRII rules, the Bliss Bibliographic Classification and Lancaster
University practice; general reference enquiries using printed and electronic
sources.
Candidates should have a degree or postgraduate qualification in librarianship
or information science. Some experience of cataloguing and the use of
electronic databases is desirable although training will be provided. A basic
familiarity with music scores would be an advantage. Applicants should be
able to demonstrate a creative and flexible approach to their work. This post
includes some rota'd evening and weekend duties. A Library Association
approved Route A training programme is available for newly qualified
librarians.
