AUTOMATION DAY
16TH May 2001
VENUE: Essex Record Office, Chelmsford
This day will focus on the elements of introducing computer systems to
manage records and archives. It will cover the main issues to consider when
automating from the basics of a computer system, through aims and objectives
to elements of an automation project. There will be a case study focusing on
the development and implementation of the purpose-built Essex Record Office
SEAX system. In the afternoon there will be a practical session on
functional specifications followed by demonstrations of SEAX, which serves a
local government archive service, and TRIM, a commercial off-the-shelf
system which caters to the records management end of the market.
The day is suitable for staff at all levels who are beginning or are already
involved in archives and records management automation programmes. A
handbook will be provided to support the course, which will include:
· notes to support the presentations;
· a select bibliography;
· useful websites;
· a glossary of terms relating to automation of archives and records
management;
· useful extra information
This will be a participative course. People attending are encouraged to
raise issues on the subjects which concern them as well as to take advantage
of the speakers' knowledge and the experiences of fellow-participants to
broaden their own understanding and to find solutions for their own needs.
The course fee of £105 includes lunch (with vegetarian option, please let
the directors know if you have any other special dietary needs) and tea and
coffee.
