Local Cultural Strategies: opportunity for libraries
CPI Library and Information Policy Seminar, Stamford, Weds 25 April 2001
DCMS expects that all local authorities in England, individually or through
joint arrangements, will prepare a Strategy by the end of 2002. The DCMS
Guidance on the preparation of Local Cultural Strategies (Creating
opportunities) was published in December 2000. CPI has arranged a seminar
that will:
* provide an understanding of the principles underlying LCSs;
* relate them to other local authority strategies and to key government
objectives;
* share the practical experience of authorities deeply involved in LCS
activity;
* stimulate ideas for effective input by libraries.
Speakers include:
* Maria Reader, Head of the Local Government Unit, Local, Regional &
International Division, DCMS
* Geoff Millner, DCMS Representative in the Government Office for the East
Midlands
From one of the pilot authorities:
* David Lathrope, Assistant Director (Libraries, Archives & Information),
Nottinghamshire County Council
With an introduction and outline of the key issues from:
* Grace Kempster, Head of Libraries, Essex County Council
And information on experience of community, partnership and consultation
from:
* Jeff Devine, Assistant Director, Community Learning, and Chris Alexander,
* Assistant Head of Facilities Management, Sunderland City Council
Questions, comments and discussion are always a key feature of CPI
Seminars. Here is your opportunity both to find out more and influence the
opinion formers.
