RECORDS MANAGEMENT DAY

The day is intended as an introduction to the principles and practice of
records management, suitable for anyone setting up a records management
programme and for all staff working in records centres. There will be a
morning session of presentations followed by workshops in the afternoon.
Firstly participants will learn how to articulate the importance and value
of a records management programme. They will be given a comprehensive
overview of the records management function followed by a case study on
implementation. The afternoon workshops provide the chance to tackle two key
records management activities for themselves. Included in price of £105 is
lunch and refreshments as well as the course handbook with speakers notes,
bibliography, glossary and extra information.

WORKSHOPS
Workshop One: Records Appraisal and Retention Scheduling
Faced with a mass of documentation it is hard to know what to keep, how long
to keep it for, what to discard and when. Participants will be given
guidelines on appraisal and the various factors which determine retention
periods to equip them to develop their own retention policies. A practical
walk-through of appraisal decision-making and of applying retention
schedules.
Workshop Two: Implementing your Programme
Mapping out the processes and procedures involved in implementing the
records management programme and developing documentation to support it.
