I am currently investigating the use of digital ID tags in libraries, in
Australia they are available from Epixtech and 3M. These tags combine
the information contained in a barcode and the security tag into one ID
tag. They facilitate self checkout and bulk check ins and apparently
make it much quicker and easier to conduct a stocktake.
I am interested in contacting any libraries that are using them. I
have a number of questions ....
1. How was the conversion to digital ID tags managed? Did the library
contract it out, close eg. for "stocktake", manage it as an ongoing
process?
2. What have been the main benefits of digital ID tags?
3. Have there been some disadvantages?
4. Does the library operate a "self checkin" book chute using the
digital ID tags?
5. Has the stocktaking process worked more efficiently with digital ID
tags?
6. Are there any pitfalls with digital ID tags?
