Head of Historic Collections
Applications are invited for this key post in the University Library,
arising from the appointment of Dr Julia Walworth to the post of Fellow
Librarian at Merton College Oxford.
The Historic Collections Section is responsible for the extensive holdings
of Rare Books and Special Collections (including the Goldsmiths Library of
Economic Literature); Archives and Manuscripts, Palaeography (where the
Palaeography Room is acclaimed as being the finest open access collection
for research and teaching in the field of Western Manuscript Studies in the
United Kingdom and one of the finest in the world) and Preservation /
Conservation. The University Library is committed to promoting research
and learning based on primary sources and a wide-ranging programme in book
and manuscript studies.
The successful candidate will be expected to hold a relevant postgraduate
qualification and have substantial experience in at least one area covered
by the collections, together with sound administrative skills and the
vision and enthusiasm to lead the Historic Collections Team forward to
maximise the benefits derived from both traditional and electronic
resources. Some teaching will be required as will active involvement in
the Library's programme of exhibitions and events. The Library is an
active member of groups including CURL, RLG and CERL and the postholder
would be expected to participate actively.
